Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament sit next to each other at the foot of the Royal Mile – one mile from Edinburgh Castle which sits at the top of the Royal Mile. The Palace was built in the 16th century beside Holyrood Abbey. The Parliament building was opened in 2004, although the Scottish Parliament had been meeting in the Church of Scotland Assembly Hall on the Mound since the Parliament was reconvened in 1999. No photographs are allowed inside the Palace and photography is restricted inside the parliament, but yo;u can find many images online from both buildings. The slide show on this page shows both buildings from the outside and some shots of the surrounding area.
