Photographing Edinburgh

See my photography of Edinburgh – a modern festival city with a rich history, wonderful architecture and beautiful open spaces
Edinburgh is home to one of the world’s largest festivals – the Edinburgh Fringe which is held in August every year. Visitors come from all over the world, many of them arriving at Edinburgh Airport which serves over 150 destinations.
Edinburgh is a major centre for higher education – with tens of thousands of staff and students at the four universities: University of Edinburgh, Heriot Watt University, Napier University and Queen Margaret University.
My portfolio is constantly evolving. It currently includes images of the expected subjects, such as the Castle and the Old Town, but I have included less well known places such as Lauriston Castle and Newhaven Harbour. I love photographing trees, flowers, water and the sky – so you will see many of these, especially in the the section on the Botanics. There are sections on local areas such as Leith, Edinburgh’s thriving port. I have included the regular weekly markets in Edinburgh and the seasonal markets that take place at Christmas and at Festival time. Most of the images are from inside the city but I have included some from the surrounding area such as Linlithgow Palace and the Forth Bridge. In case the images make you think the sun is always shining, I have included a section on Edinburgh in the Rain!
