Cruise ship passengers arriving from the Viking Neptune at Newhaven Harbour for a day in Edinburgh. You can tell from their jackets that summer has not yet arrived! Newhaven was established in 1505 by King James IV of Scotland to build the largest ship in Europe – the Great Michael. Today’s massive cruise ships have to anchor off shore and ferry in the passengers to the quayside where they are welcomed by a bagpiper (of course) and a fleet of buses and taxis. This week’s 52Frames challenge is ‘Inspired by a Photographer’ – so I have tried to follow the advice that Gavin Hardcastle (Fototripper) gives in his monthly critiques: a journey shot that shows only part of the journey / a shot that tells a story / breathing space around the edges of the frame / no distracting elements / no boring blue sky (easy on a grey Edinburgh morning!) / limited dead space / happy histogram.
